Expansion of MDM programme at Visakhapatnam

Akshaya Patra is expanding its mid-day meal programme in Visakhapatnam. The Foundation, which has been serving food to 5,249 children across seven Zilla Parishad High Schools from its centralised kitchen in Visakhapatnam, will now be reaching out to an additional 16,810 students across 75 GVMC (Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation) schools.

Through this initiative the kitchen will be feeding 22,059 children across 82 schools in the region along with 40,000 infants and pregnant and lactating mothers from 306 Anganwadi centres.

The mid-day meal programme at the GVMC schools was formally launched at the Nehru Municipal Corporation School in Seethammadhara, Visakhapatnam. The dignitaries present at this event were Honourable Minister of HRD, Government of Andhra Pradesh, Ganta Srinivasa Rao; Member of Parliament, Dr K Hari Babu; MLA, BJP Assembly Floor Leader, P Vishnu Kumar Raju; MLA, Palla Srinivasa Rao; and Unit President of Akshaya Patra, Visakhapatnam, Niskinchana Bhakta Dasa.

The mid-day meal programme was also inaugurated on the same day at Rammurthy Panthulu Peta High School with MLA, P.V.G.R Naidu (Gana Babu); and representative of The Akshaya Patra Foundation, Prananatha Dasa.
